Creating the Ultimate 3D Printing Desk Station
How to upgrade your desk to include smart responsive LED lighting and 3D printed upgrades to make your life easier!
I've been dreaming of building the ultimate work station for my design and 3D printing, so I took a sit/standing electric desk from Fezibo and upgraded it with modular storage, smart LED lighting and a iOS17 iPhone Standby Screen desk charger.
The project showcases a myriad of upgrade ideas, which include:
Smart Responsive Lighting:
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the LEDs have functional importance. We leverage WLED and an Octoprint plugin to synchronize the color and animation of the LEDs with your 3D printer's current status. This innovative approach can subtly inform you of any errors or the ongoing progress of your prints, even if the LEDs are located in a different room, thanks to WiFi connectivity.
Honeycomb Storage Wall (HWS):
This is an open-source, 3D printable, modular system by RostaP. You might already be familiar with its grid of tessellating honeycombs, which are both quick to print and frugal on filament consumption (around 50g per panel). This grid can host a variety of ready-designed holders and mods shared by the global community of makers.
The project contains add-ons that were freely shared by others. If your needs are more specific, creating your own additions is a straightforward task thanks to documentation provided by RostaP.
iOS 17 iPhone Standby Display:
The forthcoming iOS 17 update for iPhones features a 'smart home' display mode that automatically activates when your iPhone is horizontally docked on a charger. I've engineered the a 3D printable stand to accommodate a low-cost third-party MagSafe charger with space for a small decorative plant and an AirPods Pro case.
